AI is advancing faster than our instincts

AI is advancing faster than our instincts, and the world is still learning to keep pace.

In the past few weeks, major governments have released new AI initiatives that show how quickly the global environment is shifting. Many of us in maritime and superyachts can feel this pace. AI is already part of daily operations, yet the frameworks and shared understanding are still forming.

Here are three current updates shaping the landscape:

United States

The national America's AI Action Plan was released in July 2025. In late November, the Administration introduced new measures to streamline AI governance and strengthen domestic innovation, supporting safe adoption across industries.

European Union

In October 2025, the European Commission released its Apply AI Strategy to accelerate responsible AI use in sectors such as health, transport, energy, and manufacturing. This work aligns with preparation for the rollout of the EU AI Act.

Australia

Australia is currently in National AI Week (24 to 30 November). The Government recently published updated Guidance for AI Adoption, aimed at helping organisations use AI safely and confidently. It has also announced the new Artificial Intelligence Safety Institute, launching in 2026, which will test models and provide ongoing national oversight.

China

China continues to expand its AI Plus programme, encouraging adoption across government, ports, logistics, and manufacturing through a series of 2025 policy updates.

Across these regions, the pattern is clear. AI capability is moving quickly. Institutions are evolving. Leaders in every sector are working out how to prepare.
